Certified by Volvo: In a pre-owned car, it's the closest thing to a new car

Used cars are often seen in a not-very-positive light. But that's because not everyone knows about Certified by Volvo. These pre-owned Volvo cars meet a much higher standard than most used cars. There's a high hurdle just to be considered for Certified by Volvo

  At Open Road Volvo Cars, a pre-owned Volvo can't be eligible for a Certified by Volvo designation unless it has less than 80,000 miles. It must also pass our high standards for its appearance and functionality. The vehicle must be a Volvo and must have an acceptable CARFAX® Vehicle History Report, indicating that no serious accident has been reported to CARFAX. To be Certified by Volvo, a car must pass a 170-point inspection 

Even after a pre-owned Volvo passes our initial assessments, it still hasn't been proven worthy to be called Certified by Volvo. It must then pass our demanding inspection covering 170+ points of excellence, with an evaluation done by one of our uncompromising, Volvo factory-trained technicians. One example of how tough our inspection is: We check the tire tread depth in 12 different places before tire quality is deemed to be high enough.

Our Certified by Volvo inspection includes exterior panels, bumpers and grilles. All interior amenities and systems are evaluated to make sure they meet our Certified by Volvo standards. That includes windows, doors, seats and the sunroof. Checking safety features on your potential next car: Always a Volvo priority

We take a close look at the brakes: Do the brake pads have sufficient depth to operate safely? Do they operate correctly? We ask the same questions about the brake rotors. We look to see if the air bags and seat belts function properly. What about the vehicle's glass? Are the windows and the windshield in good condition? Do exterior lights work correctly? And we pay special attention to the condition of your tires.

The Certified by Volvo coverage is a 5-year, unlimited-mile warranty that can be upgraded to 10 years. The warranty covers many of the most critical systems and components in your car, including the engine and transmission, the front and rear drive axle, the suspension, the steering system, your electrical system and even your air conditioning. The deductible is zero and the warranty can be transferred to the next owner at no cost. 

CARFAX® Buyback Protection, in case of the unexpected

If you unknowingly purchase a Certified by Volvo model that's then discovered to have had an incident reported to the DMV, such as a fire, flood, salvage, odometer or title issues, CARFAX agrees to buy the vehicle  back if CARFAX originally reported certain inaccurate information.
